Even though newly published analyses of Percy by several critics show the romantic elements or aspects already present in Barnwellʼs earlier poems, we can still argue that, especially in the earlier phase of Branwellʼs works, the pirate figure of Percy is quite removed from the romantic figure in Byronʼs The Corsair.
