Sports for the disabled are rehabilitational, recreational, and adaptive sports, which are of great benefit to the disabled community. However, they have not spread enough. Thus, in an effort to promote sports for the disabled, Mukogawa Women's University has created a special curriculum for trainers and coaches involved in these sports. At the Dept. of Health and Sports, School of Letters, Mukogawa Women's University, the students are now able to enroll in two special training curriculums patterned after the teaching system of the Japan Sports Association for the Disabled. The first of these two curriculums is for trainers, and consists of "Basic", "Intermediate", and "Advanced" training courses. The second is a training system for sports coaches of the disabled. For sports trainers and coaches of the disabled, practical training and real experience is indispensable. Thus, to receive an "Intermediate" trainers' license, the students must engage in real activities with disabled participants at least 15 times. Therefore, more opportunities for high-quality, practical training with the disabled will be needed. Also, the system for "Intermediate" trainers' license system should be changed, so that the "Sports Course" students would be able to participate in this new curriculum and receive a license. It is only natural, and right that the students should be given as many opportunities as possible to learn, study, and to serve their community. |
