Ammonia-adsorption capacity of tea leaves and milk carton paper[ MCP] was investigated by the method of Kitagawa’s precision gas detector tube by use of a 2ℓ PET bottle. Samples of tea leaves were untreated one[ UT-TL], one treated with boiling water[ TB-TL], one treated with the mixer of TB-TL[ TM-TL], and one treated with some metallic ions to TM-TL [TM-TL-M] . As results, the ammonia-adsorption capacity was following order; [ TM-TL-M]>>[TM-TL]>[TB-TL]>[UT-TL]>>[MCP]. In particular, the treatment with Fe, Cu, and Al ions made the adsorption capacity more effective, and the bad-smelling ammonia was completely removed in one hour. These results were elucidated from the viewpoints of neutralization with polyphenols and proteins included in tea leaves as well as the complexing action of ammonia with metallic ions. |
