The mordanted silk fabrics were dyed with 8 plant-dyes applicable as medicinal herb of various pharmacognostical effects. The dyed silk fabrics displayed attractive appearance in colour and thier colour depth was in higher levels. However, their colour fastness was considerably poor. Antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus IFO12732 and Escherichia coli K12 W3110 of the silk fabrics dyed with plant-dyes were measured by SEK Test Method. The antibacterial activity of these dyed silk fabrics was in the acceptable level as an antibacterial substance. The antibacterial activity of dyed silk fabrics changed with the concentration and the kind of mordant in pretreated fabrics. However, the factors of mordant could not necessarily control the antibacterial effect of dyed silk fabrics. It was found that pharmacognostical effects of medicinal herbs used as plant-dye can be confirmed in the dyed form on the silk fabrics. |
