In order to achieve goals in competitive sports where Winning is most sought, it is important to have good human factors such as abilities of players and coaching staff as well as good material facters such as facilities and equipment. In a study which analyzed a gymnast's ability based on the human aspect of competitiveness such as psychological, technical and physical strength; a psychological factor is suggested to be one of the important elements in determining the gymnast's competitiveness. So in order to achieve effective coaching, it seems essential for both the gymnast and the coach to have good understanding of the other. In the former study, psychological characteristics of the two groups of players: a groups of rhythmic sports gymnastics players who tend to be individual-oriented and a group of ball game players to be group-oriented were compared from a view point of sport style and group structure distinctions. There was a clear difference between the two groups; personality characteristics evident to most players of rhythmic sports gymnastics have been identified. However, it can be assumed that psychological characteristics of a gymnast differ somewhat dependhing on the number of years she has played and her records. In the present study, two groups of subjects: one consisting of top players and the other university players in rhythmic sports gymnastics were used. The purpose of the present study is to obtain clues to specify some coaching tactics by analyzing the difference related to the relationship of the personality characteristics and sport motivation between the two groups. |
