The answer reaffirms the importance of indigo as a natural blue dye.\n In this study, color data (CIELAB) of a large number of dyed samples were used to show the characteristics of colors dyed with indigo. The differences in color between silk and cellulose fibers dyed with indigo were revealed and compared with colors produced by natural dyes and pigments other than indigo, such as logwood and Prussian blue.\n The findings showed that silk and cellulose fibers dyed with indigo differed from the colors produced by other natural dyes. The blue color from logwood was dull, that from Prussian blue was vivid, and that from Kusagi (harlequin glory-bower) was pale. This indicates that if there had been no indigo, only a limited range of blue could be expressed.
