| 内容記述 | A pharmacistʼs role in prescription inquiries, as outlined in Article 24 of the Pharmacists Act, is crucial for ensuring patient safety. However, our previous research has highlighted challenges in this process, such as the practical difficulties insurance pharmacies face while consulting with prescribing physicians in person, as mandated by the article. Additionally, many prescription inquiries do not necessarily require extensive pharmacological expertise, such as clarification on omissions. Therefore, there is a need to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of these operations. The implementation of electronic prescriptions is set to commence in January 2023, and >20,000 hospitals, clinics, and insurance pharmacies have been announced as being ready to adopt this system. However, the specific benefits and challenges of ensuring smooth inquiries for patient safety remain unclear. This study aimed to investigate the qualitative changes in the nature and volume of prescription inquiries compared with conventional paper prescriptions. A survey was distributed to 1,000 medical institutions and insurance pharmacies to gather insights on their awareness of existing issues and to explore the expectations and challenges associated with the initial phase of adopting the electronic prescription system. Based on the survey results, we aimed to investigate the utility of electronic prescription checking systems in improving patient safety compared with conventional in-pharmacy checking systems and to identify potential design and operational issues in the electronic prescription systems. | |||||||||||||
