| 内容記述 | This paper provides rationale for the importance of teaching intercultural understanding to university students. The author surveyed 98 first-year English majors at Mukogawa Women’s university who go to the US to study for 4 months in their second year. In a preliminary part of the survey, the students shared their perception of America and Americans. In the next step of the project, the author gave a presentation titled“ What is important in understanding other cultures and people?” to the students. The purpose of the presentation was to provide examples of stereotypes, and highlight difficulties in understanding people from other cultures. Following the presentation, the students were given a questionnaire in which they were asked to reflect on and uncover some of their own stereotypes. Based upon the results of the questionnaire, the author discusses how the students’attitudes and awareness changed towards other cultures and people. | |||||||||||
