| 内容記述 | Laterality means a phenomenon indicating the preference or the asymmetry of performance between the right and left sides of the body, for instance, handedness, footedness, eyedness and earedness. In this paper, we focused on the handedness among them and firstly described the methodology of the assessments, the developmental processes, and the causes of the handedness respectively. Next, we discussed the clinical significance of the left handedness (or the mixed handedness) and crossed laterality (CL). In this discussion, we stressed that a clinical significance of suggesting the presence of the minor brain damage might exist when the large asymmetry between the right and left hand functions (right hand function poor) is observed in the left handedness person, and that the performance asymmetry in addition to the preference between both hands should be examined in the assessment of handedness. Also we pointed out that the CL (especially between hand and foot) might have a clinical significance only when accompanied by other neuropsychological abnormalities. | |||||||||||||||||
