| 内容記述 | In the United States, once Chicago had been called “Garden City”. So, there is a discourse that Chicago was an origin of American Garden City. But in 1898, E. Howard expressed his Garden City concept in his book “To-morrow: A Peaceful Path to Real Reform.” The concept expanded as a movement to abroad and also to the United States. Its purpose was to ease urban congestion, improve workers' living environment and provide affordable housing for workers. Many housing reformers in America were in sympathy with the concept and designed some housing estates based on it. On these housing estates in the early 20th century, many “Garden City/ Garden Suburb” declarations with their concepts were described in many books. It is suggested that these descriptions proof the introduction of Howard’s “Garden City” concept into the United States and even partial realization of the “Garden City” concept and its purpose of social reform. | |||||||||||
